What age are MEGA Bloks for? MEGA building sets for kids by age

Every MEGA set has an age on the box. Here is how we think about the stages, from the first big block to a thousand-piece display build.

12 months to 3 years: First Builders

Big MEGA Bloks are sized for small hands. Stacking and pulling apart builds fine motor skills; vehicles, wagons and building bags with storage keep the play going. Are they safe for young children? First Builders sets are designed and tested for ages 1 and up — always follow the age on the box.

3 to 5 years: bigger stories

Musical sets, ABC learning trains and activity tables add colours, letters and counting. Many kids start mixing their blocks into their own builds — that's creativity at work.

6 to 8 years: small bricks and figures

MEGA Pokémon Poké Balls, Hot Wheels monster trucks and Barbie sets introduce small bricks, instructions and poseable figures. Choking hazards apply to small parts, so keep them away from younger siblings.

8+ and collectors

Halo vehicles, motion Pokémon, pixel art and Masters of the Universe castles are long builds for older kids, teens and adults.

Building sets that grow with the child

The best collection is one that can expand. Start with a bag of MEGA Bloks building blocks, add vehicles and block buddies, then move on to MEGA building sets with a world to customize — a Pokémon team, a Halo squad, a Hot Wheels race track. Each step keeps the fun going and fits the stage your child is at, and the little bricks of later years open endless adventures.

Tips for parents

Keep big blocks and small bricks in separate bins once younger and older kids share a room. Let the child lead: some kids love following instructions, others build their own world from day one — both build creativity, patience and high-five-worthy pride.
